Scrambled Thoughts & PSI Balls

March 31, 2011 in Spirituality

Einstein was working on the science behind the idea that the universe was indeed all mapped together, everything, we are all one.  Science still has so much left to be explained if the majority of the people refuse to believe that which they can not see. Doing some research I came across the following interesting Einstein [...]

Laundry My Way

March 30, 2011 in Parenting, Spirituality

Stick to the end with me on this one.  There’s a surprise link that I think that you’ll all enjoy at the bottom!

Do you take pride when it comes to doing the families laundry?  I don’t.  It’s just another daily chore that I’d rather rush through as fast as I can so that I have time for the more important activities, life!  I used to feel as though the house and cleanliness reflected upon my worth as a person.  If the house was cluttered somehow, in my mind, that was translated as me being an awful wife and mother.  Endless hours were spent on making sure everything was in it’s place, that mirrors and sinks were smudge-less and shiny.  At the height of this, the vacuum would stay out of the closet and plugged in so that if I felt the urge to go over the carpet it was convenient.  I would panic if someone came by unexpectedly and the house wasn’t up to par just yet on that day.

Then at a funeral I came to the sudden realization that a life should be more than slaving away at tasks that would be undone in the blink of an eye, only needing to be repeated again tomorrow.  There was no true satisfaction in the way that I was spending my time of a job well done.  No room for a raise or promotion.  No sense of completion, housework is a monotonous vicious spinning cycle.  I was a rat running a wheel that never stopped.  When I finish this life what do I want people to say about my life?  “She made a great casserole.”,”You never saw wrinkles in her families clothes.”, “Wow, her toilet bowls sparkled like diamonds!”  A change was necessary, I wasn’t living life the way we’re supposed to, with purpose and vigor, to the fullest.  I woke up!

This is how it happens now. Laundry gets done every morning so that I’m not chained to the machines for an entire day.  Sorting doesn’t happen, whatever’s in the basket goes in the same load.  The setting’s usually cold because it saves money.  Clothes are nicely folded and put away in drawers.  Don’t get me started on those drawers!  Each day I find them a mess and refolding/organizing them drives me crazy!

Stain Removal How To and Bath Time

The youngest is the family will often stain her clothes.  Sure, I could take the time to pretreat the stains with extra chemicals but why?  Instead I play a bath time game with her, it’s called, “Laundry Mat”.  She’s 6, so while she needs me to help her a bit, it’s safe to leave her in the tub for a couple minutes unattended.

How to Play the Game

1.  Knock on the bathroom door with the stained item in your hands.

2.  Open the door and ask your child if their store is open.  Tell them that they’re highly recommended.

3.  Make up some interesting story about how the item became stained(I personally like to put some effort into this part:)

4.  Hand the item to your child and have them scrub it with a bar of soap.  Let them use their imagination, this could include smacking the tub wall with the clothing or having a toy assist.

5.  At this point (10 minutes later or so) the stain will probably be out and you will have killed 2 birds with one stone.  Be appreciative and let them know that you will definitely return to their business!

Putting it all into Perspective

At the end of the day what matters is how you feel about yourself and how you’ve treated others.  Perfect laundry doesn’t count for anything.  As long as the clothes don’t smell and an attempt has been made then you’re golden!  What we do with the rest of our time, that’s the important measure of how we’ve lived.  When my children are older are they going to remember that their whites were not as white as their peers?  After my time here’s done I’d like to be thought of for the way in which I made them feel loved.  Another point is that everyone should take time to themselves to selfishly indulge in whatever excites them (as long as no one’s getting hurt;)  Pack your life with cherished memories and not guilt!  Before we know it, it will be over too soon.

Drawing Outside of the Conventional Box

March 25, 2011 in Spirituality

Last week I saw another parent sprinting in jeans to the school with a huge smile on their face.  It was a joy to see someone doing whatever they felt like regardless of what others may think.  This person was truly living in the moment and loving life!  The energy was contagious.  If my knee hadn’t been incredibly sore from doing the same thing a week ago (full out sprint in skinny jeans & parka) I would have sprinted back home, wagon and child in tow!  When we liberate ourselves from strict convention we give ourselves the gift of being true to ourselves.  When we lead by example we elevate and encourage our counterparts to awaken the power within themselves!  I’ve never been one to conform and when I see an individual being unconventional it’s pure beauty.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to communicate with a few of you and I have to say that we’re a strong group thus far.  Watch out world, we’re out there and we’re fed up with the way certain aspects of society operates!  The postive energy exuding from the interactions is still with me, swarming my soul and I feel so blessed to be a part of it.  No longer do I feel as though I’m an alien among droids because I know that I’m in excellent company!  Last night I barely slept because I’m just too excited!  I threw another item accidentally in the garbage and had the humility of dumpster diving again, why don’t I just move my make up bag away from the garbage?  Maybe I secretly enjoy retrieving the items from the alley?  What I want to say is welcome to the new members and thank you for joining our community!

One of our new members is an artist with a passion for spirituality.  His name is Gabriel Forezli and he has his own company where he can be contacted to do videography www.zeeseeproductions.com and www.gabrielforezli.com.  What impresses me is the project that he’s currently involved in.  Gab wants to make a difference and has collaborated his vision, talents and interests in an unconventional way.  He’s the director and co-producer for the television show The Big Picture, you can find the site here http://www.thebigpicturesite.com/.  The first episode is on the site and is called, “Losing My Religion”.  Having grown up in the Lutheran church and later refusing to be confirmed, unsure of what I believed, I could relate.   It promises to be a talk show that will delve into topics without fear in order to give people a whole new perspective and a sense of community.  If you live in Vancouver, Victoria, Fraser Valley, Winnipeg or Toronto the show will be on Thursdays at 10:00 p.m PST on Joy Television.  The episodes will be on the site for those of us who live elsewhere.  This is one show that I will watch!  Finally, honest media with a positive influence!

The only limits are the ones that you put on yourself!  Go Gab, Go!  I can hardly wait to see how far that you defy to draw outside of the conventional box (that’s a dare:)!

Potassium Iodine and the Media’s Slant

March 22, 2011 in Spirituality

Listening to the news lately has me wondering if the pharmaceutical community isn’t “in bed” with the heads of large media producers.  Are they attempting to use psychological techniques to make us think that we should all run out and purchase their potassium iodine tablets?  Far fetched?  I think not.

You hear them stating that there is no “safe” level of radiation exposure but that the levels in the air are not enough to harm us.  Are “they” listening to themselves?  News reports tell of record amounts of the tablets being sold and show us pictures of pharmacies empty shelves and then go on to say that we don’t need to take them.  Is this a peer pressure technique?  “Come on, everybody else is doing it!”  Isn’t that the message that they’re really sending?  The parent in me also clearly sees a reverse psychology twist in the media’s words and actions.  Do you think that I’m crazy here?  Demand has driven the price of the tablets up to as much as 4 times the regular price.  Pharmaceutical companies definitely have a motive.  Why haven’t there been any other options for safe guarding our health discussed?

I’d like to discuss the other natural options that I urge you all to consider exploring!  Pollution, pesticides, chemically altered foods, house hold cleaners and the list goes on…..  We’re all toxic, just to different extents.  Being toxic slows our metabolism and digestive systems.  Other side affects are short memory, inability to focus and unexplained aches and pains.  I’ve personally never done a boxed detox plan.  Why shell out for more than you have to?  There are cheap and easily accessible ideas for us to consider.

Our lymphatic system is mainly responsible for flushing the body, but unlike the heart it doesn’t pump itself.  Exercise assists this process to a great extent.  The re-bounder (mini trampoline) is the ultimate tool for doing that because of the gravitation pull without stress to your joints.  Each cell in your body will get a cleanse.  Compare running on a treadmill to jumping on a re-bounder and the person on the re-bounder will be the one to have consumed more oxygen!  Increased oxygen= increased fat burn!  If  you need evidence on how perfect this exercise is NASA did a study on it http://www.freedomspring.com/article_nasa_studies_rebounding.html.  My re-bounder broke another spring this morning and now it’s too broken to be safely worked out on:(  I haven’t replaced it yet but will in the near future.  You can buy cheap ones from Walmart and Canadian Tire.

Drink only pure water and lots of it!  Your city may tell you that your water supply is fine to drink but is it really?  The city that I’m in contaminates it with fluoride which is another huge issue within itself.  Come on, it’s used as rat poison and war camps have used it to control their prisoners by dulling them.  If you’re interested in the entire fluoride conspiracy theory, here’s a link http://www.informationliberation.com/?id=14949.  We used to buy bottled water but have now installed a R.O. filtration system in our house, it’s paid for itself after only 1 year.  I beg you all to do the same!

Drink black or green tea because it contains flavonoids and polyphenols which neutralize free radicals in your body before they can damage your cells, causing tumors, cancer, etc.  One researcher, found that green tea has anywhere from 8-10 times the amount of antioxidants found in many fruits and vegetables.  Green tea has been found to assist in weight loss, lowers cholesterol and also boosts immunity!  My favorite is genmaicha green tea, it tastes just like popcorn and although it’s caffeinated I find its effect on me rather calming.

Flax seed oil helps liver function which cleanses the blood that pumps through every cell of your body.  It has the highest level of  lignan, a powerhouse plant based antioxidant.  An essential fatty acid, flax seed reduces inflammation and nerve pain.  It helps the body to metabolize stubborn brown fat.  Flax seed oil is also known for speeding the healing process so that less down time is required between workouts, specifically weight training.  It lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels.  The recommended dose is 1000-3000mg per day in soft gel form, preferable over straight liquid form.  As your body gets used to it be prepared for copious amounts of diarrhea- that side effect is short lived.

Garlic and onion are 2 fantastic flavor enhancers with antibiotic and phytonutrient power!  They are best used by our bodies when raw or just slightly cooked.  Lemons also have similar properties but the added benefit of vitamin C that neutralizes free radicals too!

Spinach is full of phytonutrients that reduce inflamation and also has antioxidants called carotenoids.  To gain full benefits, spinach is best fresh or just barely cooked.

Skin brushing is an effective technique to detox the entire body through increased circulation of the lymphatic system.  Nerves are stimulated and healing is encouraged.  For your face use baking soda and a little soap on a cloth.  This will polish your face, slough off dead cells and encouraging collagen production.  This is the frugal alternative to a non-surgical microdermabrasion treatment that could run anywhere from $60-$130 in a spa!!!

Take an epsom salts bath and toxins will be drawn out like magic and your skin will be baby soft afterwards!

To wrap this post up, I feel compelled to include this song because even though I’ve had plenty of distractions today, it’s been playing over and over again in my head
