Drugstore Deception
May 16, 2011 in News Worthy
I had a personal appointment last Thursday and made an exception to my rule of no deodorant.  I’ve showered daily, shaved, had intense workouts, consumed too much onion, garlic and it’s 4 days later but still no regular stench or heavy sweating from that region. After checking, I was horrified to see that I had used anti-perspirant and not just deodorant. I was so horrified to know that we had purchased such a toxic product, mainly the paraben upset me and the fact that after one use, days later, it’s still in my system!
Then I started looking at the labels of the other cosmetics. The creams, shampoos, etc. Parabens are in almost all of it! It mocks estrogen in our bodies when absorbed through the skin, causing hormonal disruptions. The EPA states that all parabens have been proven to have endocrine-disrupting effects. It’s responsible for your hypothalamus, pituitary gland, thyroid, parathyroids, adrenal glands, pineal body and reproductive glands.
So why is something that can cause breast cancer, low testosterone in men, contribute to infertility, mess with your metabolism and brain functions legal? The research for these products is funded by the companies who manufacture it. They use it because it’s a cheap preservative and makes the shelf life longer. It’s in their best interest to find that parabens are safe. The FDA, has a very convenient law that (FD&C Act) does not authorize FDA to approve cosmetic ingredients.  The complete disregard for the health of humanity disgusts me! How else are we being unsuspectingly poisoned?
Go have a look at your toiletries labels. Dr. Mercola finds that our bodies can store up to 5 pounds of cosmetic toxins in just one year! Parabens are hidden often under other names. Here’s a list.

I agree that cosmetics should be better regulated.
This is a cosmetics database I find very useful: http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/

Thanks for the link Tina! My children seem to be reacting to some of the shampoos that we’ve recently tried. I’m going to further check the products that my household uses!
